Description:
Great matched pair of rosewood Victorian armchairs
attributed
to Alexander Roux, NYC. These large, very heavy solid
chairs feature
intricate open flower carved crests and skirts, full
lions carved on each
arm, carved and fluted front legs and a lovely deep rope
twist carving
around the entire frame. A very similar set by Roux is
shown on page 37 of
Styles of American Furniture 1860-1960 by Eileen and
Richard Dubrow. These
two chairs are actually fancier than the ones shown in
the book. The
original finish was polished and overcoated and the
chairs were
reupholstered by the previous owner. These are an
exceptional pair of
Renaissance Revival armchairs!
