Description: Included here is a pair of antique English Regency revival pier tables in the manner of William Kent. They are crafted from rosewood and feature gilded eagles with spread wings, and verdigris green marble tops. Each measures 43.5" wide, 15" deep and 33" tall. They of English origin and date from the late nineteenth century. They feature mahogany veneer and carved wooden (and possibly composition) eagle figures with spread wings, mahogany veneer, extensive carved and gilt moldings, and mirrored glass. The frieze is decorated with egg and dart molding along the top, a rosette in center with flame and acanthus leaf motif, and beaded bronze molding along the bottom edge. The edge of the base features similar carved and gilded wooden molding as does the frame surrounding the mirror. Each is in very good condition. They are unrestored with their original gilt and stained finishes. There are some gilt losses to the eagles and noticeable crackling to the mahogany veneer along the base, plus a few small veneer losses. There are no maker's marks. The rear of one has a very old heavy paper tag which reads "Pr Eagle Gilt Console Tables M/T c-1800", along with an adhered paper label from Dunn's Depositories of Bromlely, Kent. Provenance provided upon request. These items reside in our client's gallery on the Upper East Side of Manhattan (New York City) and may be seen in person by appointment. Additional images forwarded upon request. ( hantiques )
