Description:
This is a rare and unusual Pair of Antique Chinese Export Standing Foo Dog Joss Stick Holders. The Foo dogs have wonderful faces, joss stick holders on their backs, and curled tails. The modeling, painting, and glaze of these figurines are masterfully done, with colors of brilliant aqua, plum pink, imperial yellow, sage and dark green, sky blue, and a bit of black scrafito. These dogs are mounted on oblong plinth bases, the undersides, bases, and foot rims are unglazed. Dimensions (In inches- each): 6.6 H X 5.3 L X 2.6 W. Weight: 2 Lbs., 15.5 Oz. for the Pair. The date is circa 1820, early 19th Century. One Foo dog is in very good condition; the other is fair having old professional restorations to the head, a back leg, and plinth base.
