Description:
AN ORIGINAL PORCELAIN PAINTING OF A STREETSCAPE IN A COUNTRY VILLAGE IN MEXICO A charming original painting on porcelain of a roadway leading through a small village in Mexico. The sides of the street are lined with single-story homes, each with a barrel-tiled roof. Within the walled residences, gardens containing banana trees and other tropical plants and trees can be seen. In the distance, beyond the village, lies a beautiful gently sloping mountain under a partly cloudy sky. The artist's signature appears in the porcelain at the lower right, 'Maloff'. Margarita Maloff is a Miami, Florida, resident who spent time in Mexico, where she created this work in the tradition of the 19th century European porcelain paintings. Dimensions are 17.5" high by 21.5" wide, and condition is excellent. The porcelain plaque is framed by a very elegant, fluted and gilt solid wood frame, which has a few minor blemishes due to its age, circa the 1990's. The frame has an inner dark-stained wood moulding strip, separated from the outer section by a fabric mat, which has some staining typical of the effects of time on this type of matting.
