Description:
AN ORIGINAL PAINTING IN THE CUBIST STYLE OF AN AFRICAN LADY WITH HER BIRD An intriguing and original mixed media painting in the Cubist tradition using sand and mineral pigments on canvas. The painting depicts an African lady holding a baby stork, as the two look into each other's eyes. Her hair is carefully done in two top buns and tied in back. She wears a large shell necklace and other adornments around her long neck and hair, and her face is decorated with traditional tribal make-up. The artist has managed to portray a complex demeanor in his primary subject. Though Cubist in design, the baby bird has an adorable expression on its face as it gazes both at the lady who holds it and at the viewer. The color palette is primarily blues and browns, and the entire image is highly textured with sand and painted in the Cubist style. The artist is a Paris, France, resident, and has signed and dated this attractive work at the lower left, 'F. Diuga, '00'. Condition is excellent, and dimensions are 28.75" high by 23.75" wide. The painting is stretched and unframed, and can be hung as it is.
