AN ORIGINAL OIL PAINTING OF AN ERUPTING VOLCANO A stunning original oil painting depicting an active volcano in the midst of a fierce eruption, reminiscent in its impact of a scene from Dante's Inferno. This striking science fiction genre painting is spectacular in its depiction of the volcanic scenario. The viewer's vantage point is within the flaming eruption itself, where two humanoid-like beings in silhouette are emerging from the cauldron and desperately racing to escape from the massive explosion, which hurls flaming lava in every direction. The artist has deftly applied paint to the canvas in such a way as to brilliantly simulate the raging inferno of an erupting volcano, using thick impasto paint application, heavy, flowing brush and drip effects, together with superb composition. The viewer can almost feel the intense heat of this natural mountain furnace. The artist has signed this work at the lower right, 'Ivan'. Condition of the painting itself is excellent; however, the frame, of wood, fabric mat, and inner gilt wood border, is damaged due to age, primarily at the lower end. The work should probably be re-framed, as this frame, even when original, did not do justice to the painting. Dimensions are 30" high by 24" wide, and this painting was created circa the 1960's or 1970's.
