AN ORIGINAL OIL PAINTING OF A PARIS STREET SCENE IN FRONT OF THE MOULIN ROUGEA lovely and very colorful oil painting of Paris in the 1960's. Throngs of people stroll down the street in front of the Moulin Rouge cabaret on a chilly late winter or springtime day. Trees on the left can be seen with their first flower buds, while some snow remains on the ground, and the pedestrians still wear their winter attire. A streetcar can be seen approaching the viewer, and the many colors of bustling Paris life are everywhere in this charming painting.
The artist's signature appears at the lower right, 'Fars'. He was an Italian artist living in Paris at the time of this painting's creation (the early 1960's). An attached short statement appears on the reverse: 'A wealthy patron of the arts and fellow townsman of CHRISTOPHER FARS has sponsored this talented young man's education for the past five years. Presently in Paris, completing his studies, FARS is proud of the fact that his canvases are being sold across the Atlantic Ocean. He is due to return to his native Florence in the summer of 1966.'
Dimensions of this work are 20.9 inches high by 18 inches wide. The frame is highly decorated carved and gilt wood, with an inner canvas mat. Condition of both the painting and the frame are excellent.
