Description:
A PAIR OF ORIGINAL MIXED MEDIA PAINTINGS OF THE OLD CUBAN COUNTRYSIDE A charming pair of mixed media shadow box paintings in three dimensions of the Cuban countryside done around the 1960's. The shadow boxes, each under glass and framed by handmade natural bamboo frame, are about 1.5 inches deep. The scenes are similar in that they both depict a series of white country cottages with thatched rooves surrounded by flowering shrubs. The scenes recede into the distance, where the sun sets through beautiful sky colors of orange, yellow and blue. Palm trees form the backdrop of this village, between which seagulls fly. One of the pair of paintings shows a stream flowing through the center of the village.
The artist, who is Cuban-American living in Miami, Florida, has used a combination of natural materials to create this pair of mixed media paintings, including dried flowers, wood chips, and of course, paints. This pair of indigenous folk art pieces was done circa the 1960's, and each is titled, 'Campina Cubana' (Cuban Countryside). Each is approximately 10" high by 14" wide by 1.5" deep, and both are in excellent condition.
