Description:
AN ORIGINAL ECUADOR OIL PAINTING OF A MOTHER AND CHILD A charming portrait painting in dominant colors of blue and green of a mother carrying an umbrella, walking down a quiet street in the Ecuadorian countryside. Tiled-roof one-story buildings can be seen against the sky in the background. The mother is beautifully portrayed by the artist with a somewhat sad and weary expression on her face, perhaps the result of a hard life and manual toil. She is wrapped in a blue striped shawl, and her child is likewise wrapped in a burgundy shawl in the style of the native people of Ecuador. She carries a green umbrella in her right hand, providing shelter for herself and her child.
This unusual painting is signed at the lower left by the Ecuadorian artist Cordova, and dated, '83'. It is 39.6" high by 23.75" wide, and is in excellent condition. It is unframed, but stretched on wood.
