Description:
AN ORIGINAL EARLY 1960'S OIL PAINTING OF A BRIDGE CITYSCAPE IN EUROPE An unusual European cityscape with bridge in an abstract expressionist style typical of the 1960's. This painting was sold in an art gallery in the Belgian Village at the 1964-1965 New York World's Fair, with a stamp on the reverse noting relevant historical information and guaranteeing its authenticity. This winter scene is a colorful abstraction of a city bridge over a river with houses lining the riverbank, reminiscent of city streets found in Belgium or possibly France. A leafless tree appears near a pedestrian walkway along the near bank of the river. The artist has signed this work at the lower right, 'Sigara'(?). The painting is in very good condition, but the oil pigments are somewhat dry due to age, and have developed some cracking characteristic of old paintings. The frame is grooved with a gilt inner section and is of the period, and therefore also has some minor blemishes due to age. Dimensions are 20.8" high by 16.75" wide.
