Description: This is the watch that went to the moon on the wrists of the Apollo astronauts! You saw the movie! This is the watch the Apollo 13 guys used to time the crucial re-entry procedures! Without this watch they would have been "toast!" - literally! Yep, when the computers failed - this watch brought them home! It will serve you just as well in your - hopefully - less demanding endeavors! First introduced in 1966 and made for many years in varying configurations, Omega was unaware that NASA had selected the "Speedmaster" for their space mission until one was spotted on the wrist of Edward White during his Gemini IV space walk. In later years Omega discovered that the "Speedmaster" had qualified for all manned space missions at which point the name "Professional" was added to the watch's title. This particular "Omega Speedmaster Professional" was made in 1970 (the year after the first moon landing) and it has a three body, polished and brushed, screw-down case, the back of which is engraved with these inscriptions "Flight-Qualified By NASA For All Manned Space Missions. The First Watch Worn On The Moon." The dial is a matte black with tachometer gradation on the black bezel, while the white hands and batons are luminous. The three subsidiary dials show constant seconds, elapsed minutes, and recorded hours. There are pusher guards and crown guards integrated into the stainless steel case. The movement is a Cal. 321, pink gilt (for rust resistance), straight-line lever escapement, monometallic balance, shock absorber, self compensating flat balance-spring, with index regulator. The watch measures 42mm in diameter, by 48mm lug-to-lug, by 14mm in thickness. The dial, case and movement are all properly signed. The stainless steel case is in excellent condition - as the pictures reveal! The bezel insert does have some very minor chips that are barely visible. The serial number indicates that this one was made in 1970. Talk about a great looking workhorse-of-a-chronograph...this is it! Remember all of our timepieces come with our famous one year parts and labor warranty so that you may buy with confidence.
