Description: Item & Subject-Matter: Vintage Omar Rayo Pencil-Signed, Limited Embossing Edition Numbered # 4/50, Dated 1968, Captioned “My Geisha” Framed White & Black Intaglio Tactile Etching Print depicting an Asian Japanese Shamisen Guitar Stringed Musical Instrument Artist: Omar Rayo (1928- ), known for Mod Printmaker, Abstract Geometry-Geometric Art ***Famous for his Poster for "The New York Public Library at Lincoln Center, Library and Museum of Performing Arts 1965" ***EXCERPTED RESEARCH INFO: “Born in 1928 in Roldanillo (Valley) - Colombia, he began his artistic career in 1947, drawing and illustrating for newspapers and magazines in Bogotá. In 1954 he began traveling to study in all Latin American countries. He lived in Mexico from 1959 to 1960 and has been living in New York since then. In 1981 he established the Lightning Museum of Latin American Art and Engraving in Roldanillo (Valley) and in 1983 launched a project entitled "Art Road" with international artists between Roldanillo and Zarzal. In 1995 he directed the project "Art Road" with Colombian artists on the occasion of the summit of non-aligned countries in Colombia. In 1996 installed a metal sculpture of 8 meters in the city of Cali and in 1997 installed a metal sculpture of 6 meters in Seville. A painter, caricaturist, engraver and Colombian designer ascribed to the Op Art movement. In his works he believes lines and angles form big abysses. He studied drawing by correspondence in the Academy Zier of Buenos Aires. In a tour of Colombia and Latin America he recognized in the primitivism an authentic expression form. One of his most celebrated exhibitions is the one carried out in the National Room of the Museum of the Palace of Fine Arts of Mexico, titled 20 years, 100 works: Omar Rayo. In 1981 was founded in the municipality of Roldanillo (it Fences of the Cauca) the Museum Omar Rayo, possessor nowadays of one of the best collections of Latin American artists, and of the best in his work. Along his career he has carried out cartoons, engravings and has cultivated the pure geometric abstraction. The Schell are among the numerous prizes that he has obtained (1958), the Special of Engraving II Biennial Inter-American Mexico1960, that of the Museum of Art of Philadelphia (1965), that of the XIX and XXI living rooms of Colombian Artists (1966 and 1970), that of the Biennial one of São Paulo (1971), among others.
