Description: A Northern Territory, Kakadu East Alligator River Aboriginal Club of flaring cylindrical from and tapering at both ends to a sharp point, with numerous small notches incised horizontally at the thin end,the whole decorated on the surface with parallel striated vertical lines; fine glossy dark brown patina. Height 26 and 3/8 inches. See Art of Africa,Oceania and the Americas Sotheby's New York February 4 and 5 1997 lot 570 for a very similar example. This club has some Museum inventory numbers on it.
