Description:
Offered for sale is a wonderfully carved Late Neolithic nephrite jade kneeling figure, possibly a representation of a Neolithic period mythical beast. The nephrite jade used to carve this figure is a lush pale green, with just a patch of red mineral deposit spreading from his right knee to the bottoms of his feet. He has been drilled for a cord through the back of his shoulders to his bare bottom (hole visible in the "combo" picture of his back and bottom). This mythical beast is very well balanced, kneeling squarely over his feet, and he 'stands' very comfortably when placed on a flat surface. He dates to the Late Neolithic Period (4700 - 2920 BC). He measures 2 1/4" High by 1" Wide and 5/8" Deep as measured from his knees to his jutting bottom, and he weighs 59 grams (2.24 ounces).
