Description: Extremely Rare and Beautiful Museum Quality **Movado 18K Gold WWI Officer's Chronometer Wristwatch with Original 18K Shrapnel Guard, Switzerland ca 1915**

This World War I Officer's Trench Wrist chronometer is the very highest grade that the prestigious Movado Watch Company produced. As such, before being offered to its original client, this marvelous time piece was submitted to rigorous testing and official certification by the Swiss Observatory.

Jeweled down to the center wheel, with micrometer speed adjustment, 17 screw set jewels and five adjustments, this piece is further enhanced by the rarity of its original, fully hallmarked, 18K solid gold shrapnel guard and matching case.

Very few Officers Wristwatches of any brand with solid gold shrapnel guards were manufactured, and even less have survived to the present day, much less examples from Movado. The sober elegance of this extraordinary watch finally is crowned by the beauty of the flawless oven baked porcelain dial, square design Breguet hands and new old stock braided leather bracelet from the same time period as the watch.

Dimensions: 30 mm excluding the winding crown x 35 mm lug to lug

Case Signed: Movado "Hand & Watch" trademark

Hallmark: Case and Schrapnel guard fully signed with Swiss 18K solid gold marks

Condition: Excellent.

Movado Watch Company
In 1881, Achille Ditisheim founded the company Movado, whose name means "always in motion" in Esperanto in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. Together with his team of 6 watch makers he manufactured and assembled all watches by hand.

By 1899, their hard work and determination had paid off. They were awarded six first-class Official Rating Certificates by the Swiss Observatory, and in the following year, received the Silver Medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris.

In 1910 they won several grand prix exhibitions in Paris, Rome, Brussels and Rio de Janeiro for their 8 ligne wristwatch movements. The introduction of the Polyplan watch in 1912 took the watch community by storm.

In 1947, American designer Nathan George Horwitt created the first Museum Watch. It featured an uncluttered dial, with a simple gold dot marker at the 12:00 position. He likened the design to that of a sun-dial, like recognizing the sun at its zenith at high noon. Movado later teamed up with designers and artists such as Andy Warhol to create one-of-a-kind limited edition watches, which reside in museums, galleries, and collections today.
