Tobbaco Leaf Mottahedeh Shell Dish. Tobacco Leaf, one of the most prized of Chinese Export patterns was developed about 1780, probably for the Portuguese and Brazilian markets. Examples of this pattern have also been found in other European countries and in North America. A small phoenix perched atop leaves of flowering Nicotiana with a flowering twig in its beak adorns this beautiful dish. This pattern has been faithfully reproduced using the required twenty-eight colors including 22K gold and five firings in the manufacturing process. The desirability of this beautiful pattern has been undiminished by time. Tobacco Leaf is an authorized reproduction for the Metroplitan Museum of Art.
