The Moscow Trio The Moscow Trio was one of
the leading chamber music ensembles in Russia at the turn of
the century. Founded in 1892, according to one musicologist,
"it soon won great popularity for its concerts, which came as a
breath of fresh air compared to the ritualistic formulism of the
Russian Musical Society*.” *L.N.Raaben, tr: Russian
Instrumental Chamber Ensemble Music, Moscow, 1961, pp.
