Description:
According to "A Handbook of Old Morgantown Glass" by Jerry Gallagher, Volume I, p. 88 & 141, this is the #7711 Callahan 2 1/2oz wine with the #808 Mikado Etching. These, in 1995, booked at $66.00 each!!! You are buying 10 stems, 8 of which are perfect, the 10th has a few rim chips which would be easily ground down. I tried to measure these chips but they are so small that 1/64th of an inch would not even work. One other, also seems to be not quite flat on the bottom. It needs to be ground down and leveled, otherwise it sort of wobbles. This is a factory flaw, when the stem was pushed onto the base in the manufactur it was pushed just a fraction too far and the slight bump on the bottom of the base is not slight enough, thus making it wobble. Now I am no glass expert and maybe they are not even made that way but it seems a logical way of describing the flaw even if the stemware is made differently so, please induldge me for an imagination! Did you know that the Kennedy's, when John F Kennedy was president, used Morgantown stemwhere in the whitehouse! That is the quality that this glassware is!!!!! I am basically offering the 8 perfect stems at less than half of the old book price and the other two virtually free!
