Between 1892-1916, the C.F. Monroe Company was a very popular and respected glass decorating business in Meriden, CT. Both catalogs are filled with clear illustrations of either exquisitely cut glass designs or fine novelties.
The Wave Crest catalog pictures 375 items in approximately 40 different shapes. It also debuts the ""Gems"" line. The discovery of the ""Gems"" catalog is important for dealers and collectors of Monroe; not knowing the line's proper name or origin, ""Gems"" has been generally referred to as ""wall plaques.""
The Rich Cut Glass catalog features 214 pieces in 44 different shapes. Readers will find serving platters, candy dishes, vases, carafes, punch bowls, and many more cut glass pieces.
The Novelties catalog offers a wide selection of items not commonly found today. Elaborate poker chip boxes, card cases, collars and cuffs boxes, crystal handkerchief boxes, cigar and tobacco jars are featured prominently.
Both catalogs have photographs of the C.F. Monroe store, factory, and offices. The pictures preserve a more formal style than usually seen today, with ornate chandeliers, rolltop desks, and beautiful wood and leather furnishings.
