Description:
This extraordinary chryselephantine sculpture by A Mirval, circa 1930, depicts a Spanish dancer in sombrero hat and features cold-painted and gilt decoration, and a base of variegated rouge marble. Measures 25" high, 19.5" wide and 6.5" deep and weighs an estimated 40-55 lbs. Signed on the rear "C Mirval" with the inscribed word "bronze". No foundry mark. Condition is excellent. Provenance: Christie's New York, Important 20th Century Decorative Arts, 12/15/84, lot 200. This work is discussed on page 33 of The Encyclopedia of Art Deco by Alastair Duncan (E. P. Dutton, New York, 1988). This piece comes from a fine family collection of Art Deco bronzes. It resides with our client on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York and may be seen by appointment.
