Description:
To say that when you look at this mirror it takes your breath away would be an understatement! This American Federal Period looking glass is a monumental masterpiece! Carved wood , gesso & gold gilt with black ebonized columns. The central focal point of the mirror is a basket of fruit & flowers in the crest flanked on either side by a gold gilt Eagle in a square reserve. The top crest as you can see is decorated with hand carved acorn finials. The black ebonized columns are decorated with applied plaster classical wreaths painted in a moss green color. The gold gilding is in a combination of oil & water for high & low burnishing. The mirror glass is in very good condition. This mirror dates from 1790-1810. It has had some minor restoration through the years,I always want to bestow blessing on the person who had the good sense to preserve such a fine & rare work of art. This is a true American Classical Beauty! Measuring 48”Long x 22 ˝” Across the bottom & aprox 28 ˝” across the top. I know that the angle at which this mirror is presenting is a bit off, The mirror is hung so high up on the wall, that even standing on a ladder it is hard to reach! Striving For Excellence It isn’t brilliance or just getting the breaks, It is consistent attention to & honest respect for the Customer.
