Description:
This cross, a tramp art piece in a 19th century shadowbox frame with the original wavy glass, is amazing for its intricate workmanship. There, the usual ends and the unusual begins. The edges of the cross look like postage stamp perforations and are just about that size. Rather than wood I believe the cross is made of thick paper, die-cut and then assembled in a 'pyramid' to make it three dimensional. I have never seen a tramp art piece like this and wonder if, with its black felt background, it may have been a mourning piece. The back board is nailed into the frame and it looks like it has never been disassembled. The cross measures 4 3/4" high x 2 38" across. The frame measures 8 34/" high abd 7 3/8" wide.
