Description:
Late Yuan/Early Ming Dynasty (ca.1279-1400s);18.8cm tall,12cm diameter A fine and rare underglaze red meiping. By our best estimations, this meiping to the late 13th to 15th century, late Yuan/early Ming dynasty. The meiping design is with wasted neck, broad chest and a slender foot. The underglaze red exhibits an uneven development common and diagnostic of early red pigment (Yuan to early Ming) quality and firing. Because of the inconsistent quality of early red pigment, kiln temperature and application of pigment, often the fired color would vary from a faint pink to a dark blackish red. Also diagnostic of the an early attribution is that of the orange toned unglazed foot. This only occurs from centuries of contact with moist tomb soil. The condition is excellent and with injury or repair. B1/42
