Description: A fantasticly carved White Jade Pig Family. This "He Tian", white jade, carving, by its characterics most likely dates to the late Ming to middle Qing dynasty, ca.1600-1800. Carved from a large, single piece of translucent white jade. This carving was carved in XinJiang province which was and is known for making the worlds best jade carvings. This hightly detailed carving depicts a gleeful mother pig and her family of 4 piglets, meaning richness in family, feeding and playing on and around her. She has one fore-hove on a large piece of gold money, meaning prosperity and wealth, and is laying on a bed made on a giant lotus leaf. It is a very auspicious carving symbolizing fertility, family, wealth, happiness. White jade is and has been for thousands of years, the most prized color of jade. This carving was tomb excavated. Over the 100s of years of being buried, minerals from the tomb's contents seeped into the pours of the white jade introducing new color variations. This process is known as "qin" and is very highly prized. The qin colors seen on this carving vary from calcite white, light amber, to dark brown. It is a fortunate find to discover a piece of jade with just a single color of qin and this piece has several. The carving is in exceptional, museum quality condition. There is one inconsequential, old break in the right-rear leg of the piglet behind the mother pig. Please email us if you wish to see an enlargement of this area, (or any other closer details that you may wish to see).

This is truly an exceptional piece and is surly among the finer examples of a He Tian carving that we have seen.

Condition Consensus: Excellent Condition, museum quality, with one small, old break in the rear leg of one of the piglets.
