Description:
Silver Plated. This ornate late Victorian Military Shooting Trophy features 2 shields. The front one shows a soldier in Legionnaire's Head gear in prone position pointing his rifle at some out of view target. He is posed against a background of mountains, desert & lake complete with sailboat. North Africa I presume. The reverse shield is blank waiting for the new owner's words of glory. Floral ornamentations, incised & raised plus 3-dimensional swags decorate the cup. The star shaped decal appears to be copper or a copper brass alloy. Its center shows an arm holding lightning bolts. The lid is a later, period addition featuring a figural crowned eagle on a globe. The trophy was made by the Meriden B silver company & is so marked. The condition is excellent with no loss to the plating, no dents or other damage. It was given a professional polish. A heavy, fine & showy old award!....To view the many OTHER TROPHIES incl.
