Description: Native American/Western Wear. Beautiful and large vintage belt buckle of rainbow abalone shell inlay in an oval Mexican silver setting, divided by silver strips in the Hopi style. Stamped on the back, Mexico which dates the piece between 1920-1940. Solid silver back. Measures approx. 3.5 inches long X 2.25 inches wide. Excellent condition, some tarnish on the backside that can be polished out. Shows very little wear if any.

TRIVIA: Abalone is called the sea’s opal because of its opal like colors. For jewelry, each shell must be broken, split, cut, and polished before it shows the varied blue-green-violet colors that make it so attractive for jewelry settings. Abalone is considered a symbol of good fortune and wealth. In magic, each color has its own unique energy and the iridescent flash of colors has long been believed to have an effect on all the chakras (energy centers) of the body, helping to bring them into balance and alignment. Abalone is supposed to be good for the Heart Chakra, gently cleansing the heart of fear, sorrow and negative emotions so that it can shine with all the colors of the rainbow. Abalone has an obvious link with elemental Water and is used in magic and healing as a 'cleanser'.
