Description:
Very large and impressive wall plaque made by Villeroy and Boch in Mettlach around 1900. The plaque is made in Delft technique inspired by old Dutch tradition. There are many wares designed and manufactured by Villeroy and Boch in Mettlach inspired by Delft tradition - a series of beer steins and several wall plaques. The technique consists of blue glaze on white painting with different shades of blue creating beautiful effect of deep and life-like image. This one was made after a portrait of a gentleman originally painted by Frans Hals (1580-1666) - one of the most important Dutch artists famous for his portraits. Very large and impressive - 13.5" diameter. Excellent mint condition. I also have a matching pair for this plate #5182. Please look in my listings.
