Description: Beautifully engraved Certificate from the Mergenthaler - Horton Basket Machine Company issued in 1905. This historic document was printed by the Broun Green Company and has an ornate border around it with a vignette of Lady Liberty holding up a light. This item is hand signed by the company's officers and is over 98 years old. The company authorized capital stock of $10,000,000.
Certificate Vignette The company was reported in the March 1911 Edition of a New York financial paper called World’s Work by C. M. Keys as a major frauds in that have gone unpunished. The article was entitles THE GET-RICH-QUICK GAME SWINDLING THE POOR AND THE IGNORANT OUT OF HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS A YEAR -- "THE PATENTED PILLAGER," AND HOW IT WORKS -- GRADING THE VICTIMS ACCORDING TO THEIR CASH VALUE -- HOW "EASY MARKS" ARE BOUGHT AND SOLD IN BATCHES.
