Description:
This wonderful mahogany chest of drawers or dresser has some unique detailing. The marble top is not original to the piece, but looks great. There is a slight chip on the front edge, under the lip of the marble. Other than that, the marble is in excellent condition. The front of the chest has dramatic mahogany graining. There are two small drawers over 3 graduated "D" Shaped front drawers. All the hand-dovetailed drawers have their original locks, key escutcheons and beautifully cut glass knobs, which are in excellent condition. To the outside of the top drawers are panels with acanthus leaf carvings. Below each panel is a fully turned Doric column. The front feet have a boldly carved acanthus leaf atop skillfully carved hairy paw feet. The sides of the chest have recessed panels. The finish is in excellent condition having a rich color and patina. The drawers open and close smoothly. Such a chest would look grand in a dining room as a server, in a large foyer or the bedroom.
