Description:
This reproduction was electronically captured directly from an original copy without photographic intervention. It is individually ink jet printed upon request using color fast, fade resistant ultrachrome inks on 100% rag archival paper. One of the most decorative double hemisphere world maps to appear in a Dutch atlas. Cartographically, the map is based on the work of Visscher and Blaeu. Surrounding it are some of the finest embellishments ever to be seen on a printed map. On the top is a resplendent sun radiating beams of light. Just below are the moons and a grouping of birds on the wing including a swan, hawks, herons, and owls. On each side is shown wind heads and cloud formations. Beneath a set of allegorical figures represents each of the four seasons and in each corner are polar projections of the world. Pieter Goos' marine atlases are among the finest printed at the time, and his general map of the world is of equal quality.
