Description:
This commemorative smoked glass tray with decorations in white and gold that feature both sides of the Earth as seen from space has no makers mark. The center has large gold lettering to commemorate the first step on the moon and on the bottom are the signatures for astronauts; Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin Aldrin plus then President Richard Nixon who viewed the proceedings from the Oval Office of the White House. The Apollo 11 mission was the first manned mission to land on the Moon. It was the fifth human spaceflight of Project Apollo and the third human voyage to the Moon. It was also the second all-veteran crew in manned spaceflight history. Launched on July 16, 1969, it carried Commander Neil Alden Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins and Lunar Module Pilot Edwin Eugene 'Buzz' Aldrin, Jr. On July 20, Armstrong and Aldrin became the first humans to land on the Moon, while Collins orbited above. Armstrong stepped off Eagle's footpad and into history as the first human to set foot on another world, famously describing it as "one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind." In very good + condition, without chips, cracks or fleabites it measures 4 3/4 inches high and 6 3/4 inches wide. Whether used for a change tray or ashtray it would be an addition to any Moments in History Collection. SH & Ins. will be quoted after orders placed.
