Manabu Saito Sunflower w/ Butterflies Lithograph 1970s
Description: Offset lithograph on paper, framed (no glass). Numbered and signed in pencil along lower margin: "877/1000 M Saito". Printed lower margin: "Sunflower Helianthus annuus, L.". Artist signature and seal printed within image lower right corner: "Manabu Saito". Biographical information attached to frame verso. Dimensions: Image: 25 1/4 x 17 3/4in. Frame: 35 x 27in. Weight: 5lbs. (Box J) Condition: Paper attached between mat and backing board with adhesive along all four edges. Slight darkening and rippling to paper throughout. Otherwise, excellent condition overall. Artist's Biography:
Manabu Saito (Born 1933). Manabu Saito studied industrial design at Pratt Institute and began his career designing for the New York Botanical Garden and flower shows in New York City. His botanical illustrations have appeared in Audubon, National Geographic, and numerous other magazines and journals. His work is included in many books, including Wildflowers of North America, A Guide to Field Identification, and A Passion for Plants: Contemporary Botanical Masterworks. His award-winning botanical paintings are in many prestigious collections, including the Brooklyn Botanic Garden Florilegium and the Shirley Sherwood Collection. He also designed the orchid stamp series for the U.S. Postal Service, which depicts four orchids native to the United States. [Source: ]
