Description:
Elegant mahogany grandfather clock made by Walter Durfee,
Providence, R.I. It has a nine tube (each signed Durfee) movement with moon
dial, both Westminster and Eight Bell chimes, and a second hand. It chimes
on each quarter hour and strikes the hour. The back of the moon dial is
also signed by Durfee in several places (see photo). There are some numbers
etched into the back of the dial (see photo). The clock was originally
retailed by Theodore B. Starr, New York. The mahogany case has a beautiful
carved top with a finial on either side. The sides of the hood and case
feature fluted columns. There is an open carved fretwork on each side of
the hood. A beveled arched glass is in the door. The clock has claw feet
in front. This clock has been serviced regularly over the years and as a
result it is in fantastic original condition! A beautiful clock made by
America's premier clock maker of the period!
