Description:
A really stunning desk-top English Capstan inkwell with more detail and decorative appeal than many. The edges of both the base and hinged lid are decorated with the ever-popular reed and ribbon design giving it a very stylish look. It is of course the lid that makes this a highly desirable example with a wonderful piece of Tortoiseshell inlaid with intricate silver pique work, particularly decorative. The interior has a simple glass liner which would hold the ink. The silver hallmark is on the side of the inkwell which is slightly rubbed, it can be identified to the Birmingham Assay office and I think around 1902, an Edwardian example. One tiny pin sized ding, mentioned purely for accuracy. Excellent condition, measuring 5 5/8' in diameter at the base. Item ID: 30797 -------------------- Free Worldwide Insured Shipping Included - limited to $750 per box.
