Description: LUCIFER RISING

Lucifer Rising is an album by Jimmy Page, released by Boleskine House Records (Boleskine House Records BHR666) on June 19, 1987. The rare 12" blue vinyl disc contains 23 minutes of trippy soundtrack music Page provided for the movie, "Lucifer Rising", by the avant-garde film maker Kenneth Anger. This is No. 253 of a limited edition of 1000 pressings. Protected by archival LP cover. Faint crease to upper right corner, the record itself seems to have hardly, if ever been played. Thus a fine handsome copy of a very scarce recording.

The all instrumental soundtrack was partially recorded between November 1973 and 1974, at Aleister Crowley's former Loch Ness Estate, Boleskine House, purchased by Page in 1971. Due to a dispute between Anger and Page on the pace of the recording, Page's soundtrack was dropped from the film and instead musician Bobby Beausoleil, a member of the Manson family, was commissioned to complete it.

For the soundtrack, Page experimented with the use of synthesizers, hoping to create a kind of timelessness by bending and changing the sounds of the instruments, so they could not be easily identified. The insert of the unfinished album read, Page plays all music by himself, most of which was done on an electric guitar being run through an early ARP Synthesizer. An incomplete version of the film was premiered in Los Angeles in September from which this recording comes. In actuality, there was very little guitar on the soundtrack, as the synthesizer warped most of the sounds beyond recognition. In total, Page turned over about 28 minutes of music for Anger to use, not enough for a complete record and certainly less than what Anger was expecting.
