Origin: Luba peoples of the Upemba Basin in the DRC Congo Zaire, Central Africa
Material: Terracotta, fired ceramic clay
Period: Early 20th century, conservatively
Dimensions: 6.25" height, 5.25" outermost diameter; weight is 1.50 pounds
Condition: Exceptional. Held in private collection, the condition of this piece remains unchanged from the time of its 1950's field acquisition. This splendid specimen remains completely intact with NO evidence of previous restoration noted; structurally sound with significant patination throughout. Make special note that the lines appearing in the photos - just below spout opening - are exterior edges of overlaid clay and are NOT cracks of fissures, NO cracks of pressure fissures are present. Soil fragments are easily removed with a very soft bristle brush, should you prefer. Exquisite signs of age, minute surface imperfections, calcification and remnants of African soil indicative of extensive tribal use.
