Description:
I am amazed this fragile chatelaine reamins in such excellent condition! It is made of 2 beautiful limpet shells glued together at their edges. The bottom shell has dark brown rays on pearly white, with a darkish oval center. The upper shell has a brown mottled or calico pattern on shimmery, opal-like white; if you turn it in the light, you catch blue flecks. An oval hole was cut in the center of this shell, to which is affixed a band of silver for the hinge and clasp. Attached to this by another silver band is an oval section of a dark-brown and white olive shell. T is a small silver loop for the chain. The clasp fastens snugly. I see no hallmarks on the silver, but feel confident that it is silver based on the softness of the metal and the smell of it.
