Description:
Exceptional and rare Louis XV style Meridienne/canape in walnut that Grotto Antiques' lastest container shipment contained, coming straight from Paris. Dates from the Napoleon III or 2nd Empire French period, c. 1880. The length is long enough for even a tall man to stretch out on. If you saw Merchant Ivory's film, le divorce, where the mean French mother-in-law is at her worst, she's seated on a couch much like this. GROTTO ANTIQUES has not changed the wool velvet fabric. Why? Because we want to protect the planet and not fill up the land-fill with more and more fabric. Please note that the current fabric does have some slight wear. The typical French upholstery has brass tacks and the bolsters stand out with their lovely plisse-soleil, sun-beam form. Oh-la-la, c'est magnifique. I love this couch. Purchase this canape and it'll be a family heirloom that'll be passed down from generation to generation. My husband, a dealer at the famous Paris Flea Market, says we've put a great price on this couch; you can't go to Paris, buy this couch in Euros, and ship it back to the States yourself, at this price.
