Description: I've owned this painting for several years now and it's one of my favorites. I bought it at auction from Butterfields who described it as from the French School and painted by a contemporary of Louis XV. That would probably put in into the 1700s. T is no signature that I can see, but I've never had it out of the frame. The painting surface has small cracks in the varnish but is very much intact. It looks like t might have been some touch-up around the mouth area. The brush work is masterful. The frame has some missing ornament on the middle left. (see photos).
