Description: Lot: 3 Chinese Porcelain Brush Washers, Song (960-1279)/Ming (1368-1644) Dynasties. The lot contains two figural brush washers and a small double bowl brush washer. The first brush washer is a Cizhou style reclining figure of an old man, most likely dating from the Ming Dynasty. The second figural brush washer depicts a squatting man holding up a calligraphic sign. The third brush washer is a small celadon glazed brush washer in the form of two conjoined bowls with small loop handles. All three pieces are unmarked. This lot was recently purchased as part of a large private collection in Manhattan. Dimensions: Reclining figure: 3.5in. Diameter, 3.25in. High. Squatting figure: 2.25in. Diameter, 3.25in. High. Double bowls: 3.125in. Diameter, .75in. High. Total weight: 12oz. Condition: There are a number of small flat chips along the washer-rim of the reclinging figure brush washer, the most significant .5in. long. The squatting figure has a small circular area of loss, .125in. diameter, located 1in. above the base. The ware also has a number of small hairline cracks throughout the surface, the most significant below the neck, approximately 1in. long. There are a number of minor flat chips along the base. All the wares have a number of glaze imperfections and some light scratches throughout. Otherwise, the pieces are in good condition.
