Description:
Lovely cotton textile from Guatemala that is 116" inches including the fringe. It is a traditional Man's hand-woven faja or belt from Santiago Atitlan with detailed jaspe ikat designs. The men wrap this long piece around the waist many times. It is made as a thick sash but it can be worn as a scarf or use as a table runner. It is of a 100% high quality sturdy cotton with the Ikat woven design that the Mayan weavers are noted for. This is much thicker than the gauzy cotton scarves that are more prevalent. Plus it is much long and wider than a regular belt. Please look at the pictures so see they array of colors and the intricate designs here. This scarf and all the other Guatemalan Textiles I sell are completely hand woven by the women on back strap looms. I travel to the small towns and remote villages in the highlands of Guatemala and buy directly from the families who create these wonderful designs. The condition if of this one is very good. It is has a tightly woven with a crisp texture It appears to be vintage. I don't know if it was ever used or worn. It could just have a worn look from being toted around in bundles as they drag items to market every week. It is very clean.
