Description:
This Hull Red Riding Hood cookie jar is really sweet and so quaint and old! I do believe that she was used at one time in her life for the intended purpose of holding cookies for some little girl. She is in very good cleaned "used" condition with some manufacturing flaws and the 2 chips shown. This cannot be seen when her head in on! She has some age wear glazing and slight yellowing. I have numerous pictures of her. I have close-ups of individual pieces, the marking on the bottom (967 Hull Ware Patent Applied for) and showing her flaws. I will be happy to email you any or all if you wish. Just please ask me.
A little history: She was designed by Louise E. Bauer, the patent was issued to Hull who made blanks and sent them to Royal China & Novelty Co. who then painted them. You will see a lot of these out there all stating they are made by Hull. While that is true to some degree, Hull actually produced relatively few and those were limited to the open basket design you see here. Some of the same decals were used by Hull and Regal China, the best way to indentify is by the clay color and content. They ones by Hull are marked on the bottom "967 Hull Ware Patent Applied for Made for USA". Although, I am no expert in this field however, with the research I did on her I am fairly certain she is one of the few produced by Hull.
She is really a good looking cookie jar for that collector who wants to put her up in a display case out of the sun to be admired for another 70 years! I hope she will find a new home in your home. Thank you for stopping by Collectibles by the Sea.
