Description:
This vintage diecast Models of Yesteryear Y-9 Fowlers Big Lion Showmans Engine was made by Lesney in England in 1958. Lesney Products & Co.Ltd. was a British manufacturing company responsible for the conception, manufacture, and distribution of die-cast toys under the Matchbox name. Lesney was founded in 1947 as an industrial die-casting company by Leslie Smith (March 6, 1918 - May 26, 2005) and Rodney Smith. Leslie Smith, co-founder of Lesney Products, was born March 6th. 1918 and died peacefully in his sleep on May 26 2005. He bought joy to millions of children around the world. His contribution to all of us was one of delight and pleasure when receiving one of his toys. The body color is bright red with a white roof and is marked on the small name plate on the base: Made in England by Lesney, under the roof it is marked: Models of Yesteryear/No.9/Fowlers Showmans Engine. The front boiler doors and roof supports are gold, the nameplate is bright red the color of the body, and the wheels are yellow with grey treads. In it's original box, that shows wear, the engine itself is in very good + condition and it measures 2 inches tall, 3 1/4 inches long and 1 1/4 inches wide. The boxes came in different variations, this one has the engine taking up much of the cover with circus rides and people, please see item #lsneybglin1264, for the plainer box version.
