Description: This is the tin litho toy by Lehman Manufacturing titled Dare Devil. It is a zebra pulling a two wheeled cart with a black man in a ponted hat on the cart. This toy is missing the left ear of the zebra, and the reins. The connection connecting the man to the wheel mechanism is unconected. As the wheels turned around, the man would bounce up and down. The key is there and the spring mechanism is there but it is not hooked up to the wheels. The wheels are complete but at one time had been taken apart. The wheels show some bending as does the part sourounding the seat of the driver. In fact that is the worst as it was open at the top and thus more fragile. The parts leading out to the zebra are also slightly bent. However being that the parts other than the reins and the zebra ear are all there and that there is very little rust, with the exception of the spaing which has alot of surface rust, this lehmen is well worth buying and restoreing. There are no parts of the tin that have tears, only bends. There is paint loss on the back flanks of the back legs of the zebra and the top of the seat sourround. Now to tell you about the writing on various parts of the piece. On the wheels it says 'LEHMANN MUSTER SCHUTZ MARKE' and on the cart behind the wheels it says 'DEUTCHES REICH PATENT'. On the back of the seat sourround it says, 'PAT . U.S.A. APPL FOR'. On the back of the cart it says 'Marke 18 and then a bell with a 2 inside of it, and then 81 and then Lehmann'. On the front of the cart under the man's legs there are three rows of letters, 98, 86 and 752 and then to the left of those letters it says PAT then a smaller D with a dot under it and under that USA with midline dots between the U and S and S and A. On the right it says 22-JAN - 07 and 2-DEC-13. What a great toy to add to your collection! If it were mint it would value over $900.00. Happy Collecting!!
