Description: Unusual late 19th century black leather box with gold tooling surrounding the lid as well as two triangular and one round piece of open work jade inlaid into the top. The wood interior houses 4 compartments with brass name plates above each. Solid brass hinge. Paper seal on the bottom of the box as the "Preference Chest". Quite often this term referred to a gift box of 12 or so packs of cigarettes with the brass name plates labeling Camels,Chesterfield,Lucky Strike and Old Gold. The wood liner for freshness. Bottom is lined with black felt. Wonderful box for use as a man't valet or desk accessory despite the tiny spots of worn leather. Measures 10L X 4D X 2.75H.
