Description:
Measuring 49 by 25 inches, this “tombstone” mirror is in excellent original condition. The original label, bearing the name “Ellis’ Picture Gallery . . . New Bedford, Mass.” is on the back. Ellis Latham was in business in 1878, and presumably earlier and later, in New Bedford under a variety of company names, all having to do with art, including gallery exhibitions by artists of the period. The mirror, under its original finish, which is in excellent condition, appears to be mahogany, and is solid as a rock. The mirror glass itself is in surprisingly good condition, with only a few small blemishes, the largest of which measures about an inch by half an inch. (There are no blemishes or flaws near the center of the mirror - the few that are there are near the edges.) One picture shows the box joint that is used at the top of the arch - - top-quality joinery. If you are in the Florida - Georgia area, there is a good possibility of delivery either free, or at a reduced rate, as we travel in that area frequently.
