Description:
Late eighteenth to early nineteenth century pair of Japanese Sometsuke Osara [porcelain large plates or chargers] made in the Arita province, and also called Imari Ware. These plates have a beautiful bird and flower design in under-glazed blue. Porcelain was first made in the district of Arita, on the island Kyushu in the early seventeenth century from the nearby port of Imari, from where the name originated. These are an extremely desirable pair of chargers due to their size and condition [see photos]. There are sbtle differences in each plate. They were done by the same artist and have always been together as a pair.Dimensions: 21.5" in diameter. We can provide the letter of authenticity from a Hong Kong dealer that accompanies these chargers. We also have the pair of stands on which these chargers sit.
