Description: Extremely rare and highly desirable, ornate, Williamstown, Massachusetts tiger maple and cherry tallcase clock with a signed Spencer Nolen, Boston dial. Tiger maple in American furniture, especially tall case clocks, is a highly sought after wood. Generally, it's found in country pieces. This example is a highly formal work exemplified by the wonderful inlay throughout which is extremely difficult to do in a wood such as tiger maple. The secondary wood is cherry The dial is signed reverso by Spencer Nolen, Boston. Spencer Nolen was considered the finest dial painter in Boston at the time and he painted many dials for Simon Willard and Aaron Willard. All mechanics are original and in fine working order. This clock came out of an estate in Boston where it sat for many generations. The upper finial and the dial glass are also original. Measures approx. 96 3/4" in height.
