Description:
Rare piece paper collectible - large uncut scrap sheet of Saint Nicholas. There are 23 images on this large 15"x 10" sheet, each 3 1/4" high. There are 3 versions of St. Nicholas on this sheet - (8) red jeweled hat and white robe, (8) blue jeweled hat and blue robe, (7) red jeweled hat and red robe. Marked VB, number 096, dated (6th edition) 1935. This vintage chromolithograph coated with gummastic based laquer survived its 65 years of age in excellent condition. St. Nicholas Day (December 6th) was very popular Holiday in Europe. On this day small children were visited by trio of St. Nicholas, Devil and an Angel. The Devil reminded them that they should listen to their parents and behave well - otherwise he would take them with him. The Saint Nicholas would then reward the children usually with gingerbread cookies with the St. Nicholas, Devil or Angel scraps pasted on them. Single scraps in this condition is hard to find, full sheets are very scarce!!! Please note that we are picturing only part of the sheet, because it is to large to fit in the scanner.
