Description:
Standing Buddha in royal attire in gilt bronze from Thailand in the Bangkok style. IT IS 32 INCHES HIGH. CIRCA 1825 AND GUARANTEED AS SUCH! Has old gilding on bronze as well as the original red lacquer on the horizontal surfaces of the base. (See the photos). Note the clay core underneath. SUPERB INVESTMENT CONDITION! There is a Thai inscription on the front of the base which adds much interest to it. (SEE PHOTOS). IF YOU NEED MORE DETAILED AND LARGER PHOTOS BY E MAIL, JUST LET ME KNOW. The piece is in great condition with only a small chip off the top of the finial. The figure leans a bit to the left on the base but this is fixed with a small shim. The casting work is exceptional and several pieces have been applied. Still retains most of its glass jewels which probably number over 300 or more. It would be hard to find a nicer example especially for this price. These in this large size are getting very hard to come by and they are now priced $5000 to $6000 US in Thailand. I have also seen one of these with parasols and a smaller Buddha figure priced at $6500. There is a loop or an eye on the back of the base which was for the attachment of parasols, but these are almost always missing.
